Club History

We are proud to state that our teams are a product of the Long Beach Youth Soccer Organization that started over 30 years ago serving the youth in Long Beach and surrounding communities. LBYSO is a Cal South recreational program consisting of nearly 2,000 boys and girls.

It was several years ago the LBYSO Board of Directors recognized the need to add competitive teams, which is allowed under our Cal South charter.  In 2003, LBYSO added Cal South’s Signature League program for teams and coaches wanting more competitive play without the financial, travel, and training commitments of club soccer.  In 2004, 3 teams in the Signature League program representing LBYSO evolved and progressed into the need to play at a higher level in club. These 3 teams entered Coast Soccer League and went on to begin and pioneer the LBYSO club division now called FC Long Beach. Today, LBYSO has over 1,400 boys and girls playing in recreational soccer, 10 teams in Signature League and 21 teams in Club Soccer. We are proud of our organization’s progression.

In 2006, FC Long Beach hired Mark Hervin as Technical Director to provide training for our teams and oversee the quality of the training by our coaches. Mark holds a UEFA “B” and USSF "A" coaching license and has been very instrumental in training FC Long Beach players as well as improving the level of our coaching staff.  Every season, FC Long Beach finds success by enforcing our principles and coaching philosophy to our players through our technical director and coaches.   We emphasize player development at our younger ages and stand firmly on teaching our teams how to play the game properly in our training sessions and matches.
